A registered nurse from Klamath Surgery Center will call you the day before surgery. The purpose of the call will be to complete and update your medical history, give you an accurate time for arrival, and answer any questions. If you will not be at your home number the day before or the day of surgery, please call 541.884.5559 and give us a contact number where you can be reached.
Your anesthesiologist evaluates your medical and surgical information at least a day prior to surgery. The anesthesiologist may choose to contact you ahead of time to obtain additional medical information. PLEASE FOLLOW YOUR ANESTHESIOLOGIST'S INSTRUCTIONS, EVEN IF THEY ARE DIFFERENT FROM THOSE YOU RECEIVED FROM YOUR NURSE. If you don't receive a call, please know the anesthesia plan will be discussed and your questions will be answered when you meet and talk with your anesthesiologist before surgery.
You must have a responsible adult drive you to, and take you home from, the Surgery Center. This person must be physically with you at check-in.
All patients receiving sedation or anesthesiology care must have an empty stomach at the time of surgery. This is to maximize your safety and minimize potential problems.
Routine morning medications and pain pills should be taken with a small sip of water early the morning of surgery; additional dosages may be taken up to 3 hours before the time of surgery (exceptions: diuretics/water pills, oral diabetic meds). Insulin-dependent diabetics should take NO INSULIN unless given specific instructions by their anesthesiologist. There are a number of herbs and medicines, both prescription and over-the-counter, that may interfere with blood clotting. Check with your surgeon about discontinuing them in advance of your surgery.
Normal morning toiletries such as showering, brushing your teeth, using deodorant and shaving are fine unless your surgeon says otherwise. Please don't shave the area where surgery is to be done.
Wear minimal amounts of makeup and nail polish. Avoid mascara.
Please wear casual, loose-fitting clothes that are easy to get on and off.
Please leave all jewelry and other valuables at home.
Physical aids: Wear your glasses (please bring a case); leave your contacts at home. Wear your dentures, partials and hearing aids.
Children are encouraged to bring a favorite toy or blanket with them.
Please park in the designated Surgery Center patient parking area at the front of the building.
Please have a responsible adult with you until the morning after surgery.
